Perhaps the biggest and most well-known markets in the North West, these markets see stalls sprawled out across the city.

Manchester’s Christmas market trail winds through the city centre. Over 300 stalls offer mouthwatering food and drinks, clothing, toys and trinkets. This buzzing city provides an exciting atmosphere that will really get you geared up for the festive season!

Get into the Christmas spirit while you browse the traditional wooden chalets and twinkling stalls. You’ll find enticing gifts including decorative pottery and ceramics, handcrafted toys and decorations, jewellery and Christmas trees, plants and bulbs from Holland. Continental sausages, roasted almonds, crêpes as well as Bavarian beer and Glühwein provide the perfect alfresco snack.

York St Nicholas Fair day trip by coach

Tefascinating medieval city of York bursts into new life at Christmas time. After shopping, take time to relax around a roaring log fire at cosy canvas hang-out Thor’s Tipi, where you can warm up with a hot chocolate or something a little stronger.

Every Christmas, York’s St Nicholas Fair lines the historic streets of this ancient city with snug wooden chalets selling jewellery, homewares, crafts and local wines and cheeses. The twinkling light and scents of hot mulled wine and ‘chestnuts roasting on an open fire’ really add to the beautifully festive atmosphere.

The St. Nicholas Fair offers a range of markets specialising in gifts, crafts, and the very best in local farm produce. The city comes alive with bustling stalls, carol singers and buskers, just at the right time to get you in the spirit for Christmas. The magnificent medieval townhouse, Barley Hall, presents a special medieval market with live crafting, mulled wine and costumed traders. St William’s College houses an arts and crafts market for fine hand-made items not to be found in the shops. Outdoor stalls are located in St Sampson’s Square, Parliament Street, Newgate Market and Coppergate square.

Grassington Dickensian Festival day trip by coach

Grassington is a market town in West Yorkshire, and is well known for it’s themed events. We’ve enjoyed years of day trips to Grassington 1940s weekend, which sees the streets filled with vintage vehicles. During the first two weekends of December, Grassington travels even further back in time for their annual Dickensian Festival. The town is brought to life with a traditional Christmas market, nestled in cobbled streets adorned with twinkling Christmas lights. Shopkeepers throughout the village really get into the spirit with the event dressing in Victorian costume. You’ll be treated to an incredible array of charming sights, and delicious tastes and smells from the bygone era.

Christmas at Chatsworth House day trip by coach

The grounds of the beautiful Chatsworth House comes alive at Christmas Time, with live entertainment, delicious food and drink, as well as over 100 stalls offering a wide range of Christmas gifts and decorations. The Orangery shop in the garden and the Stables shop in the Stables courtyard have a wide range of home and fashion gifts, and lots of lovely stocking fillers.

Once you’ve shopped til you drop, you can take a break and sample some delicious food, with gourmet burgers and sausages, hot pork rolls, pancakes, churros and more. Plus, seeing as we’re designated driver, you can enjoy a delicious mulled wine or a German beer at one of the outdoor bars. There’s live music too, guaranteed to get you in the festive spirit!

It’s also worth exploring the house itself – each year sees the house transform into a world inspired famous literature. With past years featuring the stories of the Nutcracker, Wind in the Willows and Alice in Wonderland, this year pays homage to the stories of Charles Dickens. Visit between 11 November 2017 to 5 January 2018 to see the wonderful festive decorations.
